What exists is preview coverage: interviews with Sports Interactive (SI) developers, news pieces framing FM27 against Football Manager 26's poor launch, one first look whose headline is positive, FM Scout's comparison of SI's reveals with FM26's complaints, and creators' first impressions of pre-release builds. None of it is a verdict on the finished game. This page will add critic scores, Steam reviews and the press's verdicts when the game is out on Nov 10, 2026. Is FM27 good?
It is too early for anyone to say with authority. The game has been playable since Oct 29, but the Launch Preview is a build SI itself warns has bugs and some missing club and player assets, and no outlet has published a scored review. The fair summary as of Nov 1, 2026 is this: SI promises the fixes players asked for, an FM site that tracked those promises finds most of them at least partly kept, and the one first look in the major press reads as positive by its headline. Whether the match engine, the AI and the bug count hold up over a full season is what reviews will answer.
What the previews say
Forbes. Barry Collins published "'Football Manager 27' First Look: The Game's Back" on Oct 28, 2026. The page refused our reader, so only its headline was seen; its build, play time and findings are not reported here.
FourFourTwo. Chris Nee's three interviews with SI developer Antony Farley (Oct 28 and 29, 2026) explain Tactical Effectiveness, Tactical Tweaks and beginner advice in the developer's words. They describe the game rather than judge it, and FourFourTwo gives no verdict.
FM Scout. Its comparison, last updated Oct 23, 2026 after SI's first livestream, rates FM26's six main complaints against SI's reveals: three fixed (empty space, information per screen, scaling) and three partly fixed (finding things, controller-first design, match analytics), with "nothing fully open anymore". It adds that bugs cannot be judged before people play. The full table is on FM27 vs FM26.
TheSixthAxis. Stefan L called the free period "almost certainly an industry first", something like a stress test or a demo whose saves carry forward, and said of FM26 that it "went down like a lead balloon, both with critics and fans."
Rock Paper Shotgun, Kotaku and GamesRadar+. All three framed FM27's free week as a response to FM26. Rock Paper Shotgun noted FM26 was still "mostly negative" on Steam a year on; Kotaku headlined that the last game "was so hated" SI is letting people play the new one free; GamesRadar+ called it a move "to restore faith." They are news pieces, not hands-on previews.
What creators said
Creators with early access to pre-release builds posted their first impressions on Oct 28, 2026, the day before the free week. Each is that creator's own opinion of an unfinished game, and none gives a score.
DoctorBenjy FM. In a video titled "BRUTAL REVIEW", his biggest disappointment is how few new features there are, since FM27 builds on FM26 rather than starting again, and he finds some screens still waste space or miss detail depending on the resolution. His verdict is that FM27 is better than both FM26 and FM24.
lollujo. He insists his video is not a review, but calls FM27 a huge step in the right direction that feels finished, says SI's confidence in letting everyone play it free backs that up, and concludes that "FM is back."
Clayts. After 24 hours with the game, he answers his own three questions: FM27 is fun, it is better than FM26 ("an overwhelming yes"), and it might be as good as FM24, the answer he is most cautious about.
MustermannFM. Playing an alpha build, he calls FM27 a big step forward in which FM26's rough edges have largely been smoothed out: not perfect, but more polished, still Football Manager, and with a training system that now feels like it has impact.
SI's own FM27 Video Guides page embeds creator tutorials on starting a save and building a tactic, without naming the creators; they teach rather than review. The first creator tactics, with results from preview saves, are on Best Tactics.
What SI and SEGA say
SI's position is that players should decide. It made the Launch Preview free as "a tangible example" of rebuilding trust, and Miles Jacobson called it "the ultimate try-before-you-buy for everyone to make the call on our latest work". When FM26's updates ended, SI said it was up to players to judge whether it had succeeded once they play the next game, as Inven Global quoted. See Free Trial and Launch Preview and Miles Jacobson.
