How to Get a Job Without Coaching Badges

In FM27 you can start unemployed with no coaching badges and little experience, then apply for vacancies at clubs your low reputation can reach, usually in lower or smaller leagues, and climb from there. Your Manager Profile's badges and experience set your starting reputation.

To get a job in Football Manager 27 without coaching badges, start unemployed, load several nations so there are more vacancies, and apply for jobs at clubs whose standing is close to yours, usually in lower divisions or smaller leagues, then use early success to move up. FM27's setup lets you start unemployed and see where things take you, and your Manager Profile's experience and qualifications, coaching badges included, shape your managerial ability, reputation, style and attributes. Sports Interactive has not said FM27 changes how badges, applications or interviews work, so the mechanics below that come from Football Manager 26 are labeled.

How coaching badges work in FM27

When you create your manager, FM27 asks you to input your experience and qualifications, including playing and non-playing achievements and coaching badges, as well as management style and personality. Together they set your starting reputation and attributes. In Football Manager 26, SI explained the trade-off plainly: pick a top badge with lots of experience and you're ready to step straight into the big jobs, while lower badges and less experience mean you will grind your way up from the bottom. Nothing SI has published for FM27 says this has changed.

FM27 shows a coaching badge flag as one of four new status flags, alongside language courses and leadership training, FM Scout reports from SI's Oct 16, 2026 deep dive. More on Manager Creator.

How do you get a job when unemployed in FM27?

  1. Load more nations. More leagues mean more vacancies. FM27 offers 59 men's and 12 women's nations, though each one slows the game, so watch the Estimated Game Speed indicator (How Long Does a Season Take).
  2. Start unemployed. Choose it instead of a club at the Choose Your Team step.
  3. Aim low and abroad. With no badges and little experience, a top-flight club in a big nation will not look at you. Lower divisions and smaller leagues are where a low reputation gets interviews.
  4. Scout while you wait. FM Scout reports that an unemployed manager in FM27 can view the player database and make a shortlist again, so you can arrive at a new club with targets ready (Recruitment and Scouting).
  5. Take a job, then climb. Results raise your reputation, and a better reputation brings better offers. FM27's monthly reports now include how the board and supporters rate you, a running check on how your standing is going (Staff, Board and Finances).

Is a no-badges start too easy?

Some players think so. In Football Manager 26, Operation Sports followed an unemployed, badge-less save that rose from Chile's second division to a Premier League title with Chelsea, and argued such saves are too easy. Its suggested limits, such as taking a course only every few years or applying only to clubs close to your reputation, are house rules players set themselves, not game rules. FM Scout's No Badges challenge for FM27 starts with Sunday league playing experience, no badges and no club, and adds its own rules: take whatever job you are offered, move only by applying or being interviewed, and never use the editor. FM Scout rates it two stars of five, because a sacking only means applying elsewhere; the test is the 20 or more seasons it takes. See Save Ideas and Challenges.

What is not known

As of Nov 1, 2026, SI had not said whether FM27 changes how coaching courses are requested or how long they take, how job interviews work, or how clubs weigh reputation against badges. FM27 is out on Nov 10, 2026, and players in the free Launch Preview (to 6pm GMT Nov 3) can already test an unemployed start; saves carry into the full game.
