Tactical Tweaks and Shouts

Tactical Tweaks are FM27's one-button in-match changes, such as swapping the wingers, sending the goalkeeper up or reducing the press, that sit beside Shouts on the match screen and stay on until deselected. Shouts were rebuilt to change players' mental state instead of giving small attribute boosts.

Tactical Tweaks are Football Manager 27's quick touchline changes: buttons on the match screen, beside Shouts, that each set several instructions at once (swap the wingers, send the goalkeeper up, play with more urgency, go longer, exploit the width, reduce the press) and stay active until you deselect them, per Sports Interactive's Oct 5, 2026 deep dive. You never need to open the Tactics screen to use them. Shouts, the other half of the touchline, were rebuilt to change how players feel rather than nudge their attributes, with clearer names and explanations. SI calls the feature "React From The Touchline"; SEGA named Tactical Tweaks first among FM27's headline additions in its Oct 21, 2026 release. The clip is SI's Oct 19, 2026 gameplay preview, from a recent development build.

What are Tactical Tweaks?

A Tactical Tweak is a packaged change to your tactic for the current match. SI developer Antony Farley told FourFourTwo that a tweak such as "play with more urgency" sets two or three different team instructions under the hood, and that hovering over a tweak explains exactly what it changes. That is the difference from opening the Tactics screen and changing each instruction by hand: one press, and the game shows you what it did. The clip is SI's Oct 22, 2026 First Look Livestream, played on a pre-launch build.

Which Tactical Tweaks exist?

SI has shown examples, not a full list. The ones named in SI's deep dive:

Tweak Kind What SI says it does
Swap wingers' sides Individual Changes the problems your wingers pose to the opposing full-backs
Goalkeeper joins the attack Individual Sends the goalkeeper forward for a last-gasp attack
Play with more urgency Team Several team instructions at once (two or three, per Farley)
Go longer Team Longer passing
Exploit width Team Plays wider
Reduce the press Team Presses less

Farley's own words for the goalkeeper one: there is now a button to send your goalkeeper up for set pieces. The names above are SI's descriptions; the exact button labels in the game may differ, and the complete set will be clearer once the game is out on Nov 10, 2026.

How long does a tweak last, and how many can you use?

A tweak stays active until you deselect it, and there is no cap on how many you use at once. SI notes that some tweaks contradict each other, so stacking them is your judgment, not the game's. SI has not said whether tweaks carry over to the next match or reset at full time.

Staff advice in the dugout

Your staff watch the opponent for you. Through the dugout system they tell you when the other manager changes tactics, and advise when to start a tweak and when to stop one. Who gives that advice and how good it is will depend on your staff; how to hire them is on Staff, Board and Finances.

How Shouts changed

Shouts are still there, as "tough love" or praise, but SI rebuilt them so they change players' mental state instead of applying minor attribute boosts. They were renamed and come with more context about when to use each. When you shout, the squad bar animates to show the change in players' body language, and your staff sum up the effect in the dugout feed. How a player reacts depends on his or her personality and the situation, so the same Shout can lift one player and unsettle another. In the clip, from his first 25 hours with FM27 (Oct 28, 2026), WorkTheSpace finds the new Shouts less effective than the old ones.

SI has not published the new list of Shout names as of Nov 1, 2026.

Shouts in FM26

In Football Manager 26, in-match Shouts were missing at launch and were reintroduced in later updates, per SI on Apr 16, 2026. FM27 has them from day one in rebuilt form. The wider story of what FM27 restores is on FM27 vs FM26.

Tweaks, Shouts and Tactical Effectiveness

SI has not said how Tactical Tweaks count toward Tactical Complexity, the measure of how many instructions a tactic uses, or whether a heavily tweaked side loses effectiveness during a match. Both systems are explained on Tactical Effectiveness, and the tactics they change are on Tactics.

Frequently asked questions

What are Tactical Tweaks in FM27? Tactical Tweaks are buttons on FM27's match screen that change your tactic for that match, such as swapping the wingers, sending the goalkeeper up, playing with more urgency or reducing the press. Each can set several instructions at once and stays on until you turn it off.

Can I change instructions during a match in FM27 without the tactics screen? Yes. FM27's Tactical Tweaks sit beside Shouts on the match screen, so you can change instructions from the touchline; hovering over a tweak explains what it changes.

Are Shouts back in FM27? Yes. FM27's Shouts were rebuilt to affect players' mental state rather than give small attribute boosts, with clearer names and a summary of each Shout's effect in the dugout feed.

How many Tactical Tweaks can I use at once in FM27? There is no limit in FM27, though SI says some tweaks contradict each other. Each stays active until you deselect it.

Is there a full list of FM27's Tactical Tweaks? Not as of Nov 1, 2026. SI has shown examples (swap wingers, goalkeeper forward, more urgency, go longer, exploit width, reduce the press) but not the full set.

Can I try Tactical Tweaks in the FM27 free trial? Yes. The free FM27 Launch Preview on PC and Mac includes every mode and feature until 6pm GMT on Nov 3, 2026; see Free Trial and Launch Preview.
